Office Chic

I've been shooting with SFA Design team (Santa Barbara and LA based) for a while now and recently we photographed their office up in Santa Barbara.  Glow Magazine is about to do a spread on Kara's personal office and I thought it was the perfect time to share some of the other great shots from their space.  It's a chic, clean design is accented by unexpected and playful pops of color in perfect spots.  

I can totally imagine working in this space!

Flowers in Frazier Park

As my mom and I pulled off the 5 Freeway, we found ourselves in a town that I have often passed on my way to SF and wondered, "who the hell lives here??".  With a Prius full of flowers, three sets of sheers and more than enough ribbon, tulle, and pins for an ballerina stampede, we headed into the desert unsure of where we were going to find ourselves.  The ranch where we ended up was spectacular.  Heather, my mom's friend who is also an artist, was marrying her long time sweet heart on her parent's ranch.  My sweet mom volunteered to do all the flowers to keep costs low.  Now, it's important to know that my mom is not a florist.  And while I style flowers on photo shoots, a wedding bouquet and centerpieces are a totally different story.  To keep in line with the DIY theme and ranch feel, Heather's family had been collecting jars all year to use as centerpieces.  The different colored glass in various sizes looked amazing with the wildflower bouquets.  They added the perfect amount of color and happiness to the desert on a fabulous day. So while we didn't come entirely prepared for how much work we were taking on, with the help of a few innocent bystanders and a lot of running around, we definitely added to the transformation of the ranch.  Congrats D + H!!

Inspiration: Texture & Color

For most designers and artists there is a balance between limitless possibility and grounding reality/ constrictions.  While I think most people dream of a life with no boundaries, in the end, we are often overwhelmed when we find ourselves in situations that actually seem completely limitless.  So, for me, when I find myself in those situations, I start to regroup and look for inspiration.  This week I'm working in NY on a project and found myself completely stressed by the idea that I was working from scratch on a project that could turn out to be really huge for me.  That is, if I make it great.  So, I was looking through design books, photography magazines and blogs to get excited and find direction and a "voice".  Towards the end of my search I procrastinated a little by looking at some photos I recently took and needed to organize when I stumbled upon some photos I took at the Chicago Lincoln Park Conservatory.  The textures, colors and patterns of nature completely inspired me to look at the project with new eyes….
