Portraits a la Playa: Part 1

My good friend Jaymi and I were goofing off after a very satisfying Memorial Day BBQ and found ourselves striking a pose at the beach near the pier in Santa Monica.  She has posted some fabulous photos this week on her blog, Live Love Travel, and I thought I should post some of my favorites from behind my lens.  I always have so much fun shooting with her & it was fantastic photographing her while the light fell across her face…

I am actually falling in love with California more and more as I've moved back...the light quality here is so different than the midwest.  There's a warmth that I missed. During the magic hour, while the sun waits to set, I'm completely content with my camera and any subject that will let me photograph them.
Trying to capture that warmth is the least I can do….
I love how contemplative she looks while setting up her perfect shot
the way every good day should end - with jumping...

A Beach day in January

Just one more reason to fall for LA.  It's January and I spent the afternoon on the rooftop of High relaxing and watching a sunset.  This isn't about bragging rights so much as it is pure amazement.  After living in Chicago, I forgot that parts of the world have such beautiful climates year round and it clears up the irritation I have over housing prices in this city.  Because, let's face it, it's so great not to be shoveling snow right now.  However, if you are shoveling snow, just know that a small part of every southern Californian is jealous that you got a white Christmas…like everything, it's a give and take.
Today was a pure gift...

So beautiful watching the sunset with a group of strangers in awe
By far the coolest outdoor heater I have ever seen
Want to check this place out?  High is at the Erwin Hotel in Venice Beach.  It's got a great view and fabulous sliders, but make sure to call ahead to reserve one of their few tables.  It's definitely worth the $15 price tag on the martinis.

Sandy Sunset & a Nikon

My friend Jaymi started a photography blog last year and has been upping her game ever since.  She recently bought the new Nikon D90 and made the impressive New Year's resolution of photographing more people.  She asked my friend Kristin and I to hit the beach in search of portrait possibilities, and of course, I had to bring my camera along to document the experience…

Shell Love

I was recently hired to design the office space for Working For Green in Santa Monica. As part of the project I photographed these shells to fill the space with nautical photos that were fresh and serene. I love the drama and natural beauty of the shells in black and white, and they look great in the office. WFG is doing an amazing job at bringing the environment into our everyday lives!

Here are a few of my favorites:

Love them? Let me know! I am setting up a site to sell prints directly, but I can sell them now via email: meghanbob@gmail.com
